ウィリアム・シェイクスピア(William Shakespeare)で1564年4月23日(正確な誕生日は不明)- 1616年4月23日
イングランドの劇作家、詩人であり、イギリス・ルネサンス演劇を代表する人物でもある。卓越した人間観察眼からなる内面の心理描写により、もっとも優れた英文学の作家とも言われています。イングランド王国の非常に裕福な家庭に生まれ、父は成功した皮手袋商人で、市会議員でもあり、母はジェントルマンの娘であった。一家にはウィリアムも含め、8人の子どもがいた。
1582年、18歳のシェイクスピアは26歳の女性アン・ハサウェイと結婚。翌年に長女、1585年には長男と次女の双子が生れる。長男は1596年に早世。
